12.08.21 - Return TO SCHOOL SeptEMBER 2021

The new academic term starts on Monday 6th September 2021 and we are required to carry out COVID tests on pupils as they return from their summer holidays. We want our children back in school safely and with minimum risk to our students, staff and their families and community.

We are testing children with Lateral Flow Tests (LFT) and have been carrying out these tests since last January so are confident in our testing centre and the staff running it.

We do require parental consent for your child to be tested. For students who had consent last year this will carry over.

Testing will start on Thursday 2nd September and you can consent in the following ways:

  • the consent form can be accessed or downloaded below for printing and signing
  • email school your consent on school@lostock.trafford.sch.uk giving your child’s full name and date of birth and stating that you consent to testing by the lateral flow method
  • bring your child to school for the test and sign the form in person.

For all tests please enter the school from the gate on Barton Road – the path runs alongside the Lostock Pharmacy and Medical Centre.
The theatre foyer is where our COVID testing centre is located. You and your child will not be able to access the main body of the school when you come for testing.

For all tests please enter the school from the gate on Barton Road – the path runs alongside the Lostock Pharmacy and Medical Centre.
The theatre foyer is where our COVID testing centre is located. You and your child will not be able to access the main body of the school when you come for testing.

On the day of testing you will be required to attend school for a maximum of 20 minutes.  If you do NOT consent to your child being tested you still need to let us know. Once again, after two tests in school we will be providing children with tests to take home and use from home twice a week. We do not insist on you consenting to a COVID test but advise you do so. We can only keep everyone safe if we have the vast majority of our young people are tested to ensure that they are not asymptomatic carriers of COVID.

Once your child has been tested we will only be contacting you if the test is positive.

All the measures that students are familiar with such as hand sanitising, good ventilation in classrooms, cleaning of desks and staying at a 2m distance from others whenever possible will remain in place. Pupils will no longer be asked to wear masks in corridors or in classrooms but can do so if they wish to. Mask wearing is likely to be reviewed if there is an outbreak of COVID in the school or wider community.

Students who are not in school during the first week will be set tasks and projects to do in preparation for the new year. These will be sent via email and loaded into Class Charts. We will also use this website to share key information with you so please keep checking it.

I apologise that this plan has not been released sooner but the advice around testing was released by the Department for Education at the very end of the academic year and we wanted to be sure of our plan before we shared it with you. Thank you for your cooperation and support during these ongoing challenges.

If you have any questions or concerns about the return to school please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards,

Lindsay Brindley
